Inspiration For The Silent Sam Story:

Erica’s son Kayden inspired the creation of the character Silent Sam, for when he was a younger child, he experienced a developmental delay that impacted his ability to express himself verbally.  It was then that Erica realized how this delay contributed to Kayden’s lowered self-confidence.  Giving Kayden a way to communicate through the use of signs and being patient with him was so important.  Despite the labels that are being placed on children: whether it be learning impaired, developmental delay, developmental disability, etc. Ensure that they know how special they are.  They are more than just the labels that they are given.
